Adult Groups

  • adult study

    Pr. Charisse's study starts Monday, Sept 14, 10 a.m.

    Pr. Patrick's study starts Thursday, Sept 17, 8 p.m.

This Fall, St. Mark's is offering two unique Adult Studies via Zoom:

On Monday mornings, Pr. Charisse will lead a discussion on Amy-Jill Levine's book Short Stories by Jesus: The Enigmatic Parables of a Controversial Rabbi. Levine interweaves history and spiritual analysis to explore Jesus’ most popular teaching parables, exposing their misinterpretations and making them lively and relevant. This study begins Monday, September 14th at 10 a.m. (You will need to purchase your own copy of the book.) Please contact Pr. Charisse if you'd like to attend so she can send you the Zoom link.

On Thursday evenings, Pr. Patrick will be teaching about the Narrative Lectionary readings for the upcoming Sunday. The Narrative Lectionary follows the chronological arc of Scripture, starting with the "Creation and Fall." These epic stories are great reminders that God is always with us, through all the complexities of life. This study group meets on Thursdays starting September 17th at 8 p.m.. If you are interested in joining this study, let Pr. Patrick know so he can send you the Zoom link.

  • 21&Over

The 21&Over group is for young adults (roughly in the 21 to 40-year-old range). In pre-COVID days, the group gathered once a month at a member's home to have meaningful conversation and build authentic relationships. That goal remains the same, but the venue has changed out of necessity. After a summer of Zoom meetings, 21&Over will be doing an in-person outing, outdoors, during the month of September. Details are still being worked out. If you are interested in attending, contact Pr. Patrick to get on the email thread.

  • Seekers Circle

Seekers is a welcoming place for women who are seeking to understand themselves, their faith, and each other in a setting of open sharing. Each month a different person selects a topic from ELCA's "Bold Cafe" to guide the group's discussion on contemporary and personal issues from a spiritual perspective. Any woman is welcome to join at any time.  Seekers meets on the third Monday of the month from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. (currently, via Zoom). If you're interested in joining, contact Marcia Broucek.
