Originally from Peoria, Illinois, I graduated from Carthage College in Wisconsin and the Lutheran School of Theology in Chicago. I served congregations in Ohio and Elgin, Illinois, before coming to St. Mark’s in 1996. My long-term pastorate has been deeply meaningful and life-giving for me. I enjoy relationships built over many years, as well as meeting new people. For me, life in the church is about working together for the well-being of all people and creation. I prioritize helping people match their gifts to the world’s deepest need. I am married to Edward Hunter; we have two sons, a chocolate Lab, and an old turtle. Working out, gardening, cooking, reading, and listening to NPR help me to pay attention to the Abundance we have been given and the work there is to do.

I grew up in Oswego, Illinois, and graduated from Augustana College and Luther Seminary. My first call was in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, before coming to St. Mark's in 2018. I love running, being out in nature, listening to music, watching sports, and spending time with my family. I am married to my beautiful wife, Kate, and we have two adorable young girls, Ellie and Maddie. I am passionate about helping people develop strong relationships with each other, the community and with God. I have a heart for advocacy and seeking justice. I believe all people are created in the image of God and all people have spiritual gifts. I am honored to serve as associate pastor at St. Mark's and continue to stand in awe at God's activity and interconnectedness in people's stories.

Called to St. Mark’s in 1996 to lead this church’s song, it is pure joy to share Christ’s abundant love through the gift of music. The song here takes many forms and is expressed in many ways: from the classics, traditional choirs, and sacred cantatas to Dixieland, jazz, and contemporary praise teams and worship bands. It is always fun and inspiring! Working with students, singers, and musicians, teaching musical concepts, and preparing and presenting great music that draws people to God and deepens their faith are my passion. I graduated from DePaul University with a degree in piano performance and a minor in voice and conducting. I also enjoy traveling, the out-of-doors, hiking, riding bikes, fishing, gardening, and cooking. My husband, Bruce, and I enjoy living in the Midwest, where we have raised our four children.

A native Auroran, I now live nearby with my husband, Greg, and my three children, Brady, Josie, and Keagan. I graduated from Eastern Illinois University with a degree in business marketing and worked for several years at advertising agencies and web design firms. In 2014, I began serving at St. Mark's as the Director of Youth and Family Ministries. I love my job and love working with kids of all ages, helping them discover and connect with their faith. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family and close friends, love to travel and spend time outdoors! Spreading God's message of love and kindness to everyone is very important to me, and I am committed to developing our children and youth programs with this purpose in mind.

I grew up in towns and cities in Minnesota, North Dakota, Illinois, and Iowa. After graduating from Luther College with a degree in social work, I served two years in the Peace Corps in a small village in the Philippines, where I met my husband, Ben. I am a widow and mother of three young adults, Andrew, Emily, and Jacob; mother-in-law of Elia and Carlos; and grandmother of Chloe. I love spending time with family, gardening, traveling, and people watching. I am fulfilled and happy to be serving as Office Manager at St. Mark’s, working with pastors, staff, ministry leaders, and members to carry out our mission of sharing Christ’s abundant love amongst our St. Mark’s family and with our neighbors both near and far.

I was born in Monmouth, Illinois, and raised in Kewanee. I served in the Air Force from 1963 through 1967, and then graduated from Illinois State with a degree in applied computer science. When my wife, Sandy, and I came to Aurora in 1986, we found St. Mark’s. It’s amazing to see how this church has grown since we joined and gratifying to know that my family and I have been a part of that growth. I’m a widower with two adult daughters, Anna and Lauren, father-in-law to Michael, and grandpa to Bridget. In addition to being on staff at St. Mark’s, I am a member of The Lion’s Voice Choir. I enjoy time with my family, classical music, all sorts of puzzles, and travel.

I grew up in Aurora, Illinois . . . and at St. Mark’s! My parents, two younger brothers, and I are charter members. Though I work full-time for Nicor Gas, my heart lives at St. Mark’s. I am honored to serve St. Mark’s as founder of the handbell program, and I love helping young and seasoned people find a place in the church to service and communicate their faith through the medium of music. As a volunteer, I also sing in The Lion’s Voice Choir, serve as chairperson for the Sanctuary Art and Banner Team, teach music for FDL, serve on the Prayer Ministers Team and the Endowment Committee. In addition to loving music and spending time with family and friends, I enjoy traveling, gardening, and needlework.

When I came to St. Mark's, I joined the property team to get involved and help out as needed. After I retired from thirty years in an administrative position where I was responsible for procurement, quality engineering/control and manufacturing engineering, I took the part-time position of facility manager at St. Mark's. It has given me the opportunity to get to know the parishioners much better than I would have just coming to worship. It's also given me a feeling of satisfaction from working to make the necessary repairs and improvements to the church and the Child Development Center. There is always much to do! Knowing that my efforts are appreciated is an added bonus. I now fill in during the summer months to give my job-sharing partner a summer break.

Joining St. Mark’s as the communications coordinator has given me the opportunity to apply my background in publishing and nonprofit organizations to St. Mark’s vision for healing and justice. As a former managing editor of two publishing companies, the owner of a third (which I sold to Augsburg Fortress), and, later, the director of a music therapy association and the communications manager for an advocacy organization for classical sacred music, I feel privileged to be able to weave these threads of experience together on behalf of St. Mark’s. My passion for communication is not just to share the news, but to offer people lively, interactive connections with each other. My interests in music, reading, nature, and tiny house communities for seniors help keep my life in balance.
